  • BOURNEMOUTH INTERTATIONAL HOTEL & OCEAN PALACE.....UPDATE

Tanner & Tilley Town Planning Consultants working for their client Landmark Estates and alongside Anders Roberts and Associates architects have submitted an application to redevelop the Bournemouth International Hotel and Ocean Palace restaurant on Priory Hill and replace them with a new larger restaurant and 57 self-contained flats and 9 holiday apartments with underground parking.

The site is prominent within the Tourism area of Bournemouth, and its redevelopment will contribute towards the Council’s wider objectives for the regeneration of this part of the town centre. Pre application advice has been sought and the Council are supportive in principal of the proposed development. There seems to be no objection to the loss of the hotel as there is going to be adequate provision for new holiday accommodation to replace it.

The existing hotel is no longer profitable whilst the restaurant owners are excited about the prospect of a new venue being the first pre-let unit of the new development. The redevelopment will create new jobs and tourist accommodation fit for the 21st century.

This landmark development will ideally cater for the tourist trade on the Westcliff and the local business as well while the apartments will bring income into the town centre as well as the restaurant creating new jobs and providing staff accommodation. The sister restaurant of the Ocean Palace, the Ocean City on Christchurch Road will remain open throughout.

John Montgomery Director of Tanner & Tilley Town Planning Consultants commented "The West Cliff part of the town centre will see significant change in the next few years and this development will be at the forefront of the regeneration of the area.”

James Roberts from Anders Roberts continued "Anders Roberts are pleased to be involved with such a prestigious project, a project which will bring a vibrancy to a tired yet important corner of Bournemouth, the design is contemporary and simple whilst respecting the historic character of the neighboring conservation area, utilising high quality materials and cutting edge design we look forward to the proposal living up to our clients name 'Landmark'

James Bradley of Landmark Estates commented " The feedback we have received so far has been very positive and we look are looking forward after many months of hard work coming to fruition and delivering a top quality scheme for Bournemouth.”
