Having been involved
with this fine old building for many years the new owners appointed us to
complete the extension for which we had obtained planning approval some years
before. This involved some re-planning
of the scheme to provide 8 new en suite rooms together with internal
alterations to relocate the lift and form a first floor link between isolated
areas in order that these should have full access to the new lift.
During construction our
brief was extended to include the formation of new corporate offices and 6 new
staff bedrooms, lounge, kitchen and bathrooms within the extensive roof spaces
all carried out whilst the Home remained fully operational.
The new extension forms the
third side of a courtyard entrance and uses the same palette of materials as
the existing with roughcast render, timber windows and handmade roof tiles. A
verandah was incorporated to provide a greater sense of privacy for the ground
floor occupants of the new rooms and to provide a covered south facing sitting
area.
